Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the deadline for registration?

May 15 is the deadline for registrations online. We will accept final registrations by June 29.

2) What does the $250 registration fee include?

The registration fee includes materials, meals, and transportation during conference hours from Sunday, July 18 through Wednesday, July 21.

3) What are the payment options for the registration fee?

There are three payment options: credit card authorizations, purchase order from school system and personal check. It is encouraged for payment to be submitted with you registration, however we can work with teachers whose districts require a Purchase Order, etc.

4) Who is responsible for booking/arranging my travel into Omaha, NE?

Each attendee is responsible for booking and paying for their own travel. Attendees that are driving simply need to indicate this on their registration form.

5) Will there be anyone at the airport to greet me?

Yes, there will be a welcome center at Eppley Airfield in Omaha. We are please to offer a comlimentary shuttle service from Eppley Airfield to the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus on July 17 and 18, for arrivals, and on July 21, for departures. Individuals needing shuttle service to and from the airport on dates other than the above will need to take a cab or arrange their own rental car. Transportation is not available from other airports/locations.

6) Where will I stay during my conference?

DoubleTree Guest Suites Omaha has a Special Olympics rate of $99 per night, plus tax.  To book a room, please go to the Special Olympics Group site.

7) How do I get from Point A to Point B when I arrive in Omaha?

Please refer to the Directions tab for driving directions on how to get to University of Nebraska at Omaha. Also, there will be maps available of the campus and the city of Omaha available on site. The conference will provide a daily shuttle from the DoubleTree Guest Suites to the University of Nebraska, Omaha campus and back. If you choose to stay at a different hotel, you will need to provide your own transportation to and from campus.

8) Is there a discounted rate for multiple teachers registering from the same school district?

There is a discount of $200 total if five (5) or more teachers register from the same school district. There is an extra form that will need to get filled out once each teacher is registered.

9) What evening events are being planned?

There are events planned for each night of the conference. Sunday evening, we will host a celebration while broadcasting the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games that will simultaneously be held in Lincoln, NE. Monday evening will be the inaugural viewing of an original play written specifically for Special Olympics. The play is focused on the subject of inclusion and will include actors with and without intellectual disabilities. Tuesday will comprise of a trip to Lincoln, NE to join in various activities surrounding competition on the University of Nebraska at Lincoln campus. Two nights will also include social events which have locations that are to be announced. Please refer to the Agenda tab to see the times of these events.

10) Will the University of Nebraska at Omaha provide Continuing Education Units for this conference?

There will be an opportunity to receive Continuing Education Units, CEU’s. The cost is $10 for 2 units. All paperwork is to be filled out on site upon arrival.

11) Will the University of Nebraska at Omaha provide Graduate Studies credit for this conference?

There are graduate credits available. Please contact Hannah Lefler if you are interested.

12) Do I need to complete any release forms?

Yes. Special Olympics asks each participant to sign a 2010 NEC Adult Attendee Release form. It is part of the official registration materials.

13) What is the dress code at the conference?

The dress code at the conference is summer casual.
