The Advisee/Advisor Partnership

Successful planning is a partnership between the advisee and the advisor.
Each partner must accept the responsibilities for success.

Advisee Responsibilities

Advisor Responsibilities

  • Set your goals high; a college degree requires initiative, skills, and hard work.
  • Develop good decision making skills.
  • Read your general catalog and learn the college and university requirements for graduation.
  • Know dates and deadlines and give yourself ample time to meet them.
  • Maintain frequent contact with your advisors.
  • Make advance preparations for meetings with an advisor; have a general plan for the courses you would like to take.
  • Get to know the services the University provides.
  • Make sure you meet the prerequisites for the courses in which you plan to enroll.
  • Provide information on policies, procedures and programs which have been established by the faculty, the departments, and the College.
  • Facilitate student development in decision making.
  • Offer long-range program planning.
  • Discuss schedules and course selections.
  • Assist in making contact with other offices within the University which meet the specific needs of individuals.
