Description: |
The secondary education major is designed to prepare candidates to meet Nebraska teacher certification requirements in grades 7-12 content areas, or K-12 art, music and physical education, with endorsement options in art, business, biology, chemistry, deaf/hard of hearing, English, world language, health, history, language arts, library media, marketing, mathematics, mild/moderate disabilities, music, natural science, physical education, physics, and social science. A minimum of 125 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.75 is required to graduate from the College of Education. The required coursework for secondary education is divided into four areas: General Education, Professional Core, Related Content Courses, Secondary Major, and Endorsement Areas. |

Field Experience: |
All secondary candidates must meet the state licensure standard of a minimum of 100 hours of classroom experience prior to student teaching. Field experiences are embedded in identified professional courses. |
Student Teaching: |
The student teaching experience is an all day all semester experience in metropolitan area schools. Student teaching is the capstone experience. |

Secondary candidates must complete the coursework for one field endorsement or two subject endorsements. A field endorsement encompasses two or more closely related subjects. Course work is taken in a number of areas within this field. A subject endorsement is a specific content area such as English. The high demand areas of Chemistry, World Language, and Physics may be done as a single subject endorsement.
