History

In the summer of 2006, faculty members in the College of Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha met about how they might serve the community in the area of literacy learning. Conversations resulted in a plan for promoting family literacy in the Omaha community. Faculty members agreed that by collaborating with community partners, grants could be written to bring authors and illustrators of children’s books to Omaha for the benefit of school children and the community. The process of creating a sustainable community service project involving faculty, students, and the community was underway.
