Outstanding Service Award - Undergraduate
This award will be presented to an undergraduate student in each concentration who has demonstrated a high level of personal service in the major in at least two of the following areas: service to the university, service to the School of HPER, service to the community, or service to the profession. The undergraduate applicant must have completed 60 hours and have at least a 3.00 GPA in his/her major.
Outstanding Service Award - Graduate
This award will be presented to a graduate student in each concentration who has demonstrated a high level of personal service in the major in at least two of the following areas: service to the university, service to the School of HPER, service to the community, or service to the profession. The graduate applicant must have maintained at least a 3.00 GPA.
University Honors Convocation Award
This award is presented to one undergraduate student in each concentration who displays a combination of outstanding scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community. The award is presented at the Honors Convocation and the recipient's name is included in the convocation program. The recipient competes with other College of Education recipients for the Dean's Award. The Dean's award recipients from all colleges compete for the Vice Chancellor's Award.
NASPE Outstanding Physical Education Major of the Year Award
This award will be presented by NASPE to one undergraduate student in each related concentration from each institution offering a degree in Physical Education. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding students majoring in physical education teacher preparation, athletic training or exercise science from colleges or universities that have professional preparation programs. Criteria for this award include Junior or Senior standing, 3.0 GPA, service contributions, and NASPE/AAHPERD Membership (number required). Recognition will be in the form of a certificate which will be presented to the student at a special reception during the AAHPERD national convention. In the event the student is unable to attend the convention the certificate will be mailed to the student. The names of all recipients will be published in NASPE News.
AAHE Outstanding Undergraduate Health Education MajorS of the Year Award
This award will be presented by AAHE to one undergraduate student in from each institution offering a degree in Health Education. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding students majoring in health education from colleges or universities that have professional preparation programs. Recognition will be in the form of a certificate which will be presented to the student at a special reception during the AAHPERD national convention. In the event the student is unable to attend the convention the certificate will be mailed to the student.
The Helen B. Hewett Scholarship is awarded each year to one or more female students who are majoring in physical education. The amount of the award is determined each year and is dependent on the amount of money available from the Foundation as well as the number of awards. To be eligible for this award the student must be female, have declared physical education as a major in the School of HPER, have completed 36 hours by the time of application, and have earned a GPA of 3.00 overall and 3.25 in physical education. Applicants must carry a minimum of 12 hours during the semesters in which the award is received.
