Recreation and Leisure Program
Recreation Therapy Concentration

Graduate Program

A degree with a concentration in Recreation Therapy prepares students for careers in one of the fastest growing allied health professions.

There are currently over 36,000 individuals employed as Recreational Therapists. Hospitals, chiefly psychiatric, rehabilitation, and other specialty hospitals are the primary employers. Employment opportunities are expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2005. Job prospects for recreational therapists in private psychiatric facilities and physical rehabilitation facilities should be favorable, although it is important to bear in mind that jobs in this sector generally require strong clinical training or experience.

The Graduate Program has two tracks - Thesis and Non-Thesis. These build upon the competencies needed for the entry level therapist and expands to emphasize the managerial and research needs of the the profession.
