Undergraduate Program - Admission Process
Admission Process

 

  1. Students typically apply to the Athletic Training Program during the Spring of the Freshmen year. A minimum of 2.5 GPA for previous college courses must be met prior to application. Students with less than 2.5 are not eligible for the UNO Athletic Training Program.

 

  1. Student must be enrolled or have completed PE 2880 Physiology and Anatomy and PE 1010 Introduction to Athletic Training prior to submitting application. Transfer students must have had equivalent courses.

 

  1. Fill out application for Undergraduate Athletic Training Program
    1. Applications may be obtained from the School of Health Physical Education and Recreation or are available online at  Undergraduate Application.
    2. Include completed recommendation forms. Person signing reference form must seal form in an envelope and sign across the flap of the envelope prior to returning the form to you.
    3. Be sure to include e-mail address, as communication will occur via e-mail.
    4. Submit all materials to:

All materials must be submitted prior to February 26, 2007 for admission Fall 2007.

 

  1. Applications will be reviewed after February 25, 2008. Transcripts will be reviewed by the Chair of the Athletic Training Admission Committee. Overall GPA and GPA in prerequisite course are calculated. Applicants not meeting the minimum GPA or course requirements are notified and removed from applicant pool. Students currently enrolled in prerequisite courses should have the instructor fill out the grade verification sheet for each prerequisite class in which the student is currently enrolled.   1. Applications are reviewed by members of the Athletic Training Admission Committee. Applications are reviewed for completeness, volunteer or work experience in athletic training or allied health, leadership ability, memberships and certifications and references. A pre-interview score is determined. Applicants will be notified as to whether or not they have been selected to receive a personal interview no later than March 17, 2008 Interviews for 2008-2009 will be held April 5th, 2008, from 8:30am-12:00pm at UNO. Not everyone who meets GPA qualifications will be granted an interview.

 

  1. The Athletic Training Program is required to use a competitive selection process, therefore, not all students who have met the criteria will be admitted. Students may reapply the following year if not admitted. Students who have declared an Athletic Training Major will be allowed to continue with that major for advising purposes for one year. If not admitted on the second application, the student must select a different major.

 

  1. Applicants must meet technical standards in order to be considered for admission. Students who feel they may be unable to meet the technical standards should contact the UNO Services for Students with Disabilities to determine what accommodations may be available.  Final admissions will require the student to complete and document the following:
    1. Physical Examination by MD, DO, or Nurse Practitioner. This may be done by your physician at home or may be done at UNO Student Health Services.
    2. Proof of vaccinations is required prior to admission. Vaccination proof required for tetanus inoculation (within the last five years), rubella, mumps and polio or documentation of having the diseases.  Students must also show evidence of immune titer to varicella (chicken pox) or history of previously having the disease.  Students are strongly encouraged to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccine.  Any student electing not to be vaccinated for Hepatitis B will be required to sign a waiver.
    3. Show evidence of current certification in Standard First Aid & Adult CPR/AE
    4. Students are required to maintain these certifications throughout the entire academic program

 

  1. Applicants selected for admission are notified in writing and must accept the position in writing within 2 weeks of notification. Declined positions may be filled from the alternate list as needed.

 

  1. Starting date for accepted students is the first day of school, Fall 2008.
