Dr. Michael Walsh

Walsh

Dr. Mike Walsh was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After finishing undergraduate studies at Georgia Tech, Dr. Walsh attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as a surgical intern and orthopedic resident at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Walsh completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship in 1976 at the Hughston Orthopedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. The Hughston Clinic is home not only to one of the first Sports Medicine Fellowships ever established, but also to the first fully dedicated Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Hospital in the nation. Dr. Jack Hughston, founder of the clinic, stands as one of the fathers of sports medicine in this country. Through Dr. Hughston's pioneering efforts, the clinic has grown into a national referral center for many elite athletes, as well as a resource for local high school, college and recreational sports participants. Dr. Walsh is proud to be an alumnus of this prestigious program.

Dr. Kirk S. Hutton

Hutton

 

Dr. Hutton is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in athletic sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems. He is also a specialist in diagnosing and treating shoulder problems. Dr. Hutton treats patients with minor sprains to those needing total joint replacements. He is on staff at several major Omaha hospitals that include Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Children's Memorial Hospital, NHS University of Nebraska Medical Center, Nebraska Orthopedic Hospital, NHS Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center, and Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Hutton completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship with the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

While in Colorado, Dr. Hutton assisted with the NFL Denver Broncos and participated in the care of other professional athletes. He is currently a team orthopedic specialist for the U.S. Olympic Ski Team, Dana College, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Dr. Hutton is board certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He also holds membership in several professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Omaha Mid-West Clinical Society.

He has authored several published articles in various medical journals, as well as book chapters including, but not limited to, The Team Physician's Handbook, Orthopedic Secrets, and Sports Medicine Secrets.

Dr.Timothy Burd

Burd

Dr. Burd has been practicing medicine for ten years and is originally from Southern California. He moved to Nebraska in 2003 to begin practicing at Nebraska Spine Center.

Like all physicians at the Nebraska Spine Center, Dr. Burd is fellowship-trained and limits his practice specifically to spinal conditions. He is one of only 28 spine practices dedicated solely to the treatment of spine conditions in the United States and the only all-spine practice in Nebraska.

In his leisure time, Dr. Burd enjoys weight training and reading as well as spending time with his wife and two children.

Dr. Monty Mathews

Mathews

Dr. Mathews has been practicing medicine for over 20 years in the state of Nebraska. Dr. Mathews received his bachelor’s of arts degree in biology in 1981 from Hastings College before completing his medical schooling at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1985. Dr. Mathews finished his residency at the UNMC as well and now serves as an Assistant Professor in the department of Family Medicine at UNMC in which he is responsible for overseeing resident physicians and consulting patients.

Dr. Mathews has been an UNO Team Physician for over 20 years and has many responsibilities at UNO which include being available for medical consultations, athletic training room coverage, event coverage, and assisting with the drug testing procedures at UNO.

Originally from St. Paul, NE, Dr. Mathews currently resides in Omaha with his wife Nancy, and their 3 children, Carly, Drew, and Haley.

Dr. Sean Mullendore

Mullendore

Dr. Mullendore received his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College while playing football there for 4 years. He completed his medical schooling at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Mullendore finished his residency at the David Grant USAF Medical Center on Travis AFB in California and completed his fellowship at Primary Care Sports Medicine, National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, Maryland. He is currently a Family Practice and Sports Medicine physician for Alegent Health in Bellevue, NE as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of HPER at UNO.

Dr. Mullendore began working with UNO Athletic in 2005 through Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue. He assists with event coverage at UNO as well as coverage for Bellevue East and Bellevue West High School Athletics.

Osteopathic Medicine...

Dr. Marjorie Bisenius

Bisenius

Dr. Bisenius graduated in 2000 from Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences.  She completed her residency at Clarkson Family Medicine in 2003. Dr. Bisenius was born and raised in northwest Iowa and her and her husband Dennis have a son named Jacob who was born on June 23, 2008.

Dr Bisenius also acts as Student Health Physician at UNO as well as serving as a team physician for UNO Athletics. She is an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and Minnesota Vikings fan.
