Application Process

Degrees Offered:

UNO’s Department of Counseling offers both a Master of Science and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling. A Master of Arts requires a thesis and is usually pursued by those planning to earn a doctorate or have a special interest in research and in writing. The department offers a masters degree in counseling with a concentration in one of the following areas:

Academic Prerequisites:

Baccalaureate degree
15 semester hours in behavioral sciences or closely related fields with a 3.0 GPA for Community, Student Affairs and Gerontology Counseling applicants.

Admission Process:

  1. Apply to the UNO Graduate College, indicating your desire to be accepted into the counseling degree program. You can find the link to apply for admission to the Graduate College at: www.unomaha.edu/graduate/prospective/applyforadmission.php. After your application and transcripts are received by the Admissions Office and you are admitted as a graduate student the Graduate College will forward your application to the Department of Counseling.
  2. Apply for Admission to the Counseling Department. Contact our admission coordinators at (402) 554-2764. The Department of Counseling will then provide you with additional information about the application procedures and assist you through the process. Be sure to ask about deadlines!
